Cari Ness Announces Run for Minnesota Legislature
Today I am announcing my campaign for the DFL endorsement for Minnesota State Representative of District 66A, which includes parts of St. Anthony Park and Como Park in Saint Paul, parts of Roseville, and all of Falcon Heights and Lauderdale. Our district caucuses will begin the endorsement process on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.
I have lived in the NW corner of Como Park for 19 years. My husband and I fell in love with this area, its parks and its people, and made the decision to stay and raise our family here. For many years I have been highly engaged with solving the issues concerning our district by serving on the community council, its environment committee, and on the executive committee of the DFL in Senate District 66. I have worked closely with our current elected officials and their mentorship has meant a lot to me. I have great respect for the work they have accomplished.
But, Minnesota is facing serious and immediate challenges that will require new energy, perspective and leadership at the capitol. The next generation needs us to act now.
In listening to my neighbors, I have heard your concerns about the climate crisis as well as unsustainable health care costs, the constant attacks on women, lack of education funding, the need for equity and inclusion for all, gun violence, and the desperate need for more affordable housing and transit. These need to be the priorities at the capitol. And I want to hear more. I value our community’s wisdom and I will be the conduit for our community’s voice in the legislature.
I am not in this race for me. I am in it for our childrens’ future, for my sisters, and ALL of my neighbors including my neighbors of color, of different faiths, and my LGBTQ+ neighbors. Our future is dependent on the intersectionality and equity of our policies.
My life has always been firmly rooted in service. As I embark on this next step down that path, I look forward to connecting with you, hearing your story, and representing you at the state capitol.
Let’s do this together,
